Authorities mentioned they were notified by a individual who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then located multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police state preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.

A senior representative said the attack left him stunned and had to be solved quickly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
